Adrian Culley is global engineer for AccessData. He is a graduate of the prestigious Information Security Group at Royal Holloway, University of London. Adrian was previously a Detective with Scotland Yard, and latterly served with the Computer Crime Unit there. Ayhan Şehrin, is Managing Partner/Senior Consultant in EBS Energy & ICT Systems since 2002, partner and R&D and Projects Coordinator in Verion Technology Group and partner and Assist. Gen Manager in TURKKEP Kayıtlı Elektronik Posta Hizmetleri since 2009.

Mr. Şehrin has more than 10 years of experience in the ICT sector in the design and development of IT solutions and in the design, management and monitoring of IT projects. His specific areas of expertise in IT focus around information security and knowledge management.

With an MSc. degree from the University of Liverpool, UK and a dissertation in computer forensics, he has proposed a framework of practices for computer forensics and a strategic implementation roadmap for Turkey. Mr. Şehrin is an Electrical & Electronics Engineering graduate from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey, specialising in control theory, telecommunications and robotics. His areas of activity, research and interest in the IT security domain focus on digital forensics, IT governance, e-discovery and compliance and data privacy. Since 2009 he has been working on the development of the first ETSI-compliant Registered E-Mail System in Turkey, a TÜBİTAK-supported project, for Verion Technology Group.

Mr. Şehrin has been involved in EU-funded projects as senior trainer, IT expert and team leader over the last 8 years and has participated in several EU-funded service contracts and TÜBİTAK-funded R&D projects. Since 2003, Mr. Şehrin has been evaluating and monitoring projects of educational content, funded by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme and contracted by the State Planning Organisation/Turkish National Agency, as independent assessor.

Mr. Şehrin is a member and head of the working group for computer forensics of the Information Security Association of Turkey and a member of the Informatics Association of Turkey.

Bartek Gedrojc is Product Manager at the Fox-IT Crypto and High Security department. He studied Electrical Engineering at the Delft University of Technology, continuing with his PhD research in the field of Cryptography. After finishing his research he started to work for Fox-IT as a Security Consultant. He was successful in breaking the Dutch Internet Voting system, before he started working on the Fox DataDiode. Responsible for various international certifications during his Product Management such as the Common Criteria EAL 7+, the highest Common Criteria certification in the world. He now focusses on the further development and deployment of the Fox DataDiode internationally.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

April 2010 to 2013 - FP7 European funding project - collaboration with Interpol, Fraunhofer Institute, Crabbe Consulting, Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) and Plassdata - standardisation of international Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) - 2.7 million Euros - co-investigator - to develop facial identification of disaster victims through the utilisation of forensic facial reconstruction and automated facial recognition systems and the research results will be integrated into International Identification procedures.
The principal area of my research is facial anthropology including:
   1) Juvenile facial reconstruction
   2) Facial reconstruction standardization and evaluation
   3) Development of a computerized facial reconstruction system
   4) Craniofacial identification
   5) 3D Anatomical Models

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT WITH SCIENCE AND ART

Through media appearances, museum exhibitions and public presentations I have attempted to increase public awareness of science, specifically relating to archaeological facial analysis and forensic science.
The facial analysis of people from the past became a recognized scientific method for interpretation within archaeological investigations as a direct result of my involvement with the BBC2 series "Meet the Ancestors" as a facial anthropology expert. This programme ran for six series between 1998 and 2004, and I was involved in the reconstruction of 24 faces from the past. This is a format that has been copied many times by other TV channels and I have been involved in many research projects analyzing the faces of British ancestors (Secrets of the Dead (C4), The Face of Britain (C4), History Cold Case (BBC1)).

I have also utilized facial reconstruction to analyse facial disease, healed trauma and congenital conditions in people from the past. This has included a study of the healed sword wound to the face of a soldier from the Battle of Towton (1471), Leprosy, meningioma hyperostosis and haemangioma. These studies have aided the archaeological investigation of medical treatment and disease in ancient populations.

I have carried out a great deal of research into the facial analysis of preserved bodies. This work was founded on a collaboration with the Egyptian Museum of Cairo analysing the face of an Ancient Egyptian mummy known as Lady X. Since this early work I have analysed the faces of approximately 30 Egyptian mummies, in collaboration with the British Museum, National Museum of Scotland, Theban Mapping Project, Egypt, Georges Labit Museum, Toulouse, the Metropolitan Museum, NY, Glyptotech Copenhagen and the Polish Centre for Archaeology, Egypt. This work has involved CT scans, portrait comparisons and multidisciplinary research collaborations with scientists from a variety of backgrounds, and has featured on numerous TV programmes (Mummies Unwrapped (Discovery), Mummy Autopsy (Discovery), Rameses: wrath of man or god? (Discovery), Inside the Mummy (BBC2)).

I have also analysed the faces of other preserved bodies, such as Iron Age Bog bodies where the soft tissues have been preserved by acidic peat soil burials. Research partnerships with the Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus, Denmark (Grauballe man), Manchester Museum (Worsley bog man) and National Museum of Ireland (Clonycavan bog man) have resulted in numerous publications of novel techniques for the assessment of facial features from CT data and distorted preserved soft tissue morphology.

In total I have reconstructed over one hundred archaeological faces and my work is exhibited in at least thirty museums in ten countries.

He has worked with various Fortune 500 companies throughout the world.

Cem presented at the 2010 EuroForensics Conference on Windows Incident Response, has published a paper about automated evidence extraction and malware behavior analysis at the International Security and Cryptology Conference, and has written articles about cloud computing security and incident response for ComputerWorld Online.

Dr. Cem YÜKSEL, is the head of Speech and Audio Examinations, Turkish Police Forensic Laboratory. He has almost 1500 real case experience on forensic audio. He gave consultancy on call center frauds to Turkish Banks. He provided technical support before and during establishing the speech and audio laboratory of Council of Medicine of Turkey, Kosovo Police and North Cyprus Turkish Republic. He is author and co-author of more than 30 published papers.

Mr. Stippich has been extensively involved in the field of computer forensics since graduating Lawrence University in 1990. He was instrumental in developing the forensic capability of the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory, one of the first crime laboratories in the nation to create a computer forensics discipline. Involved from inception to adjudication, Mr. Stippich has forensically analyzed, processed and testified as an expert witness on a wide variety of computer cases including homicide, drugs, gambling, theft, pedophilia, child pornography, embezzlement, destruction of data, and medical assistance fraud.
Chris has developed and provided training for international, federal, state and local law enforcement officers in the basics of seizure, investigation, analysis and prosecution of high technology crimes. Dmitry Sumin founded Passware, Inc. in 1998 and is now a president of the company. Dmitry was the developer of the first versions of Passware's software and still continues to oversee product development. Sumin earned his master's degree in mathematics from the Moscow State University.

Fatih Alagöz is an associate professor in the Computer Engineering Department of Bogazici University. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering in 1992 from Middle East Technical University, Turkey, and his D.Sc. degree in electrical engineering in 2000 from George Washington University, Washington, DC. İbrahim Mirmahmutoğulları, born in Alacahan, Sivas on 17th May 1964, graduated from Yildiz Technical University, Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1986. Mirmahmutoğulları attended master programs of Istanbul University Management Economics in 1990-1991 and of Istanbul University Organization of Management in 1992. After graduating from university at the age of 22, he founded the Dizayn Group. today Dizayn Group exports to more than 80 countries with 85 patents. In 2010, he founded Mir Holding.
Mirmahmutoğulları with 2 other people started off with the purpose of developing and applying projects on water transferring and beginning from those years he structured the firm on "Research and Development" ground. Mirmahmutoğulları represented our country in the world final organized in Philipines where he maintained the same success and won the Big Prize in the 2002 World Young Business Achiever. Joost studied telematics, a mix between telecommunications and information technology, at the technische hogeschool Rijswijk. His thesis was on the subject of intrusion detection systems and was executed at Fox-IT. During his study Joost started a company which provided a product for SME's to leverage the benefits of IT more commonly found in enterprises. After finishing his study in 2003 he was offered a position at Fox-IT as a security analyst. He helped building the Plato IDS expert system and monitored customer networks for intrusions. Besides that he also performed forensic investigations and penetration tests. In 2007 he switched to the Fox-IT Crypto unit to work as a project manager on security projects involving state secret information. As of 2010 Joost is responsible for the marketing of Fox-IT. Joachim Gebauer has been with VeriSign Authentication Services - now from Symantec - since 2006. His experience spans more than 11 years in the IT security industry specialising in information security, identity and access management, two-factor authentication, public key infrastructure (PKI), data loss prevention, encryption, email security and fraud detection and prevention. In his role as regional technical manager he has been instrumental in major security projects across EMEA such as:

Luca Scarpato received his first level degree in Electronics Engineering from the Politecnico of Torino in 2000. His thesis, concerning system control and automation in the aerospace world, was written basing on FIAT AVIO's Project.

Manuel Da Silva is a Fraud Management Product Consultant for the SAS Fraud and Financial Crimes Practice group. Manuel works with world-wide financial institutions in the development, planning and execution of the SAS enterprise-wide fraud management solution. Manuel has spent his career in the consumer and commercial payment industry. He has successfully consulted on multiple card payment, real-time optimization and lending fraud reduction projects with clients world-wide. Manuel works with financial institutions to meet their specific needs by implementing fraud best practices across the entire fraud life-cycle. Mr. Murat Göçe, managing director of Kaspersky Lab Turkey, started his career as a technical engineer at IT sector.
Since 1980, Mr. Murat Göçe worked at management position at different fields like technical, sales and project management. He personally experienced the transition from main computer systems to personnel computers and he was a witness of Internet revolution starting from 1990. He worked on large scale projects in Turkey.
Mr. Murat Göçe was graduated from Yıldız Technical University Electric Engineering. Verisis is an IT company specialized on software development for Forensic /Criminal Laboratories. In Verisis, He has worked on several projects as an analyst, developer and project manager. Murat has 24 years of technical experience and extensive knowledge in Information Security, IT Governance, Business Continuity Solutions, Computer Forensics, delivery of consultancy, training and auditing services. He is the founder and CEO of LOSTAR Information Security since 1998, has also been lecturing as part time instructor in Galatasaray, Bilgi and Sabanci Universities. He is the current VP and founding president of ISACA Istanbul/Turkey Chapter in 2009.  

Nicholas Crabb (B.Sc Physics) is the regional sales manager for Foster and Freeman responsible for the Middle East and Eastern Europe for the past five years. In his presentation he will not only cover existing techniques in fingerprint development but new developments in fingerprint detection and enhancements. These developments will include the use of new forensic lights sources (Crime-Lite XL), the use of techniques using new chemical treatments and new product developments including utilizing anti-stokes and thermal processes.  

Oğuz KARAKUŞ was born in Malatya, in 1963. He did his education until university in Istanbul, then attended Yildiz Technical University in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering between 1981-1986. After graduation, he carried out his compulsory military service as an army officer. He graduated from Turkish National Police Academy as police inspector in 1989 and is presently assigned at The Turkish National Police Headquarter, Supply and Maintenance Department.

Until now he has worked in a number of posts in various capacities- he was charged with Elazig Police Vocational School Department, Supply and Maintenance Department, Turkish National Police Headquarter Vice President Private Line, Public Order Department SASEM (Crime Scene Investigation Training Center ) Division, Forensic Police Laboratory KATEM (Forensic Sciences Training Center) Division, Turkish National Police Academy Forensic Sciences Research Department and the Head of Security Management Department. He did the Masters degree in Ankara University in the Physical Investigation and Criminalistic programme of Forensic Sciences Institute in 2006 and was awarded Ph.D. from the same Institute in Criminalistic Programme in 2010.

He has contributed to the development of crime scene investigation unit in Turkey, has submitted number of papers at a number of National and International Congresses and Symposiums and has arranged the first Photo Exhibition on Forensic Palynology of Turkey.

The author continues his career as a lecturer at the Police Academy and teaches under graduate-level courses in Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Sciences and Postgraduate courses in Introduction to Forensic Sciences, Identification Methods and Fingerprint lessons.

The author has made great contributions to the development of Forensic Sciences by publishing Crime Scene Safety and Security Book, Drugs (abused) Materials Book, Private Security Basic Training Course Book (Ed.), Criminalistics Book (Ed.), Forensic Sciences Book (Ed.) and articles on Poroscopy, Fingerprinting in twins, Forensic Palynology, Forensic textile and Cross examination.

He is married, has three children and is interested in Criminalistic, Crime Scene Investigation, Fingerprint (Poroscopy), Forensic Palynology and Arson Investigation.  

Mr.Köktürk was born in 1965. He graduated Physics from Ege University Faculty of Science in 1985 and Electronic Engineering from Dokuz Eylul University in 1991. He has 20 years experience with more than 150 projects about Health IT and IT security issues. He is already running as a Deputy General Manager in Birim Bilgi Teknolojileri Tic. A.S. and he is the Director of IT Security with the top-level executive in Promer Bilgisayar. Mr. Köktürk, within the scope of Social Responsibility between the years 1993-2000, actively contributed to promotion of modem and internet using, awareness of community activities along with "IRIS BBS" public service. Currently, he is the member of EMO, HIMSS,CCO, MSHUG, Bluetooth SIG.  

Özgür has been working in Turkish Forensic Police Laboratory for nine years as a forensic imaging expert. He has almost 2000 real forensic case experience so far, specifically on facial identification. Ozgur holds a Master of Art (M.A) in Television and Cinema from University of Gazi and M.Sc. in Forensic Art from university of Dundee, UK.

Currently, he has been involved in the forensic art and anthropological examinations (such as forensic age progression and forensic facial reconstruction) in Turkish Forensic Police Laboratory.

Rifat Bozacıoğlu studied business administration. For the last 6 years, Rıfat is working in the forensic financial investigation area and has extensive experience in international corporate fraud and regulatory investigations, forensic due diligence, employee misappropriations, commercial disputes and forensic technologies throughout a number of industries including automotive, pharmaceutical, engineering and financial services.
Rıfat is responsible for the development and management of the Forensic Services Department in PwC Turkey, Istanbul. His team provides assistance to local and foreign clients all over Turkey.
His notable assignments include regulatory investigations into a big multinational automotive company and a big multinational engineering company which involved assignments in Germany, Austria and South Africa.
Prior to joining Forensic Services he was an auditor in PwC Germany.
 

Before founding Swiss FTS Ltd, Rogier worked several years for an international audit- and consulting firm in the field of eDiscovery and computer forensics. Being involved and managing a considerable number of these projects, he acquired a vast expertise in the field of E-Discovery. Ryan began in the digital forensics industry three years ago with an initial focus on tool evaluation for sales in markets outside of the US. Through the process of connecting commercial tools with examiner needs, Ryan became frustrated by informational and tool-related shortcomings which limit the jobs of examiners worldwide. He discovered that some of these shortcomings could be overcome by bringing experience and technology across borders, and has focused on finding global solutions to local problems ever since.
With special emphasis in the mobile forensics field, Ryan guides development at eDEC Digital Forensics and persists in the goal of simplifying the job of the mobile forensics examiner.
 

Seref Sagiroglu was in Antalya, Turkey. He received the BS degree in electronic engineering from Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey, in 1987, and the PhD degree in system engineering from the University of Wales College of Cardiff, UK, in 1994. He is now a full professor and head of Department of Computer Engineering, Gazi University. His research interests include modern heuristic optimization techniques (genetic algorithms, tabu search, and simulated annealing), artificial neural networks and its applications, biometrics, fuzzy logic, intelligent system identification, modelling and control, and robotics, computer and information security, steganography, spyware, web-based applications.

Professor Dr. Vahit Bıçak, internationally known lawyer, was a visiting scholar at both the City University of New York and the Fordham Law School, U.S.A. Professor Bicak, who has worked in a number of Turkish universities including Bilkent University, Hacettepe University, Gazi University and Atılım University, has been a lecturer in evidence law, criminal law and criminal procedure law at the Police Academy, Faculty of Security Sciences, since 1990. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Moribor University in Slovenia, and a Visiting Professor at the Police College of Hungary, in Budapest.

For over twelwe years, Professor Dr. Vahit Bicak has been practising law as a legal consultant of international and national companies.

Professor Dr. Vahit Bıçak has been the member of the Turkish-American Association since 2003, and he is currently serving as a Board member on the Board of Directors.

Professor Dr. Vahit Bıçak has written numerous books and articles has been lectured throughout the world. Some of his books include Turkish Penal Law (2007, Seckin), Professor Dr. Vahit Bıçak frequenty on TV channels such as NTV, HABERTÜRK, CNN TURK, SKY TURK, 24, KANAL TÜRK. In 1999, he was at the European Court of Human Rights, Strasbourg/France, as a trainee lawyer. He has repres-ented Turkey at the Council of Europe, the Committee of Experts on Police Ethics and Problems of Policing.

In 2003, he was appointed as a director to the Presidency of Human Rights in the Prime Ministry of Turkey, which is the highest administrative position concern-ing human rights administration. He served two years on this position and left the office in September 2005.

Professor Dr. Vahit Biçak graduated from the Faculty of Law, Ankara University in Turkey (1985-1989). In 1996, he became a doctor in law with a thesis on improperly obtained evidence. He received his PhD from the University of Nottingham in Great Britain.

Vladimir Katalov is the CEO of ElcomSoft Co.Ltd. studied Applied Mathematics in Moscow Engineering-Physics Institute (State University). Vladimir is working in ElcomSoft from the very beginning (1990); in 1997, he created the first program the password recovery software line has started from: Advanced ZIP Password Recovery. Now he coordinates the software development process inside the company and develops strategic plans for future versions.

Yalçın ATMACA, is the head of Audio, Video and Data Examination Section in Turkish Police Forensic Laboratory as a video&image examination expert. He has almost 6000 real case experience on forensic video/image manipulation, video editing detection, person/object comparison, video enhancement, close range photogrammetry and bloodstain analysis from video/images.
He lectured and trained many trainees from different countries such as Kosovo, Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Sudan, Palestine, liberia and North Cyprus on forensic Video and 3D bloodstains calculations and pattern analysis. He has been working Ankara Forensic Police Lab. since 2000.

 

Started as a system administrator in the Forensic Laboratory of Turkish National Police. Taking advantage of both a forensic environment and specialization in Information Technology, he moved into the field of IT forensics. Got training in Germany and USA. Started the computer forensics services within the Forensic Laboratory of Turkish National Police - still the only Computer Forensics Lab in Turkey that has achieved ISO 17025 accreditation. He has provided forensic examination services for over 800 real cases and has also specialized in Quality Assurance in Computer Forensics.

Yuri Gubanov is the CEO and owner of Belkasoft, computer forensics software vendor. Mr. Gubanov is a frequent speaker at industry known conferences like EuroForensics, DoD CyberCrime, China Forensic Conference, CEIC and so on. Besides being an expert in the field of computer forensic investigation, Yuri is a senior lecturer at the St-Petersburg State University, delivering various courses like programming essentials, Microsoft.NET technologies and software usability.
